The one-CTA rule for your link in bio

Twelve buttons feel generous. They usually mean you have not chosen. Here is how to pick one action without deleting your whole life.

A link-in-bio page with twelve equal buttons is a polite way of saying “I don’t know what I want from you yet.” Visitors feel that. They tap nothing, or they tap the least important thing because it looked familiar (your TikTok).

The one-CTA rule is not “you may only have one URL forever.” It is: at any given moment, one action is the hero.

How to choose the hero this month

Ask: If 100 strangers from Instagram arrived today, what is the most useful thing they could do for both of us?

Examples:

  • Coaches in launch week → book a call
  • Writers growing a list → newsletter
  • Shops in drop week → the product
  • Musicians before a tour → tickets

Everything else can exist below, visually quieter.

What “hero” looks like on the page

  • First button
  • Different label energy: a verb + outcome (“Get the 2026 dates”, not “Link 1”)
  • Repeated in the Instagram bio line
  • Repeated in Stories when you remember

Supporting links: portfolio, podcast, “other socials.” They are for the people who already trust you.

You can rotate without looking chaotic

Keep the same public URL. Change the first button when the season changes. Your audience already learned the address. You are not teaching them a new domain every Friday.

If you need history, screenshot the old order. Analytics per link will tell you when the new hero is actually working.

The emotional part

Choosing one CTA feels like abandoning the rest of your work. It is the opposite: you are giving your best work a chance to be seen. The other projects still live on the page. They just stop competing in the first two seconds.

FAQ

Isn’t more choice better?

On a phone, after a Reel, no. Choice is work. Work gets postponed.

What if my manager wants every sponsor up top?

Rotate sponsors weekly as the hero, or group them under “partners.” Five sponsor buttons and no human CTA is how pages die.

Does this require a paid tool?

No. It requires an opinion. A fast page with click stats just makes the opinion honest. Create a page if you want that loop.
